Corpus Callosum
The corpus callosum is a thick strand of over 200 million nerve fibers smack in the middle of the brain. It is the communication center of the brain. It relays info from one side to the other. It is the largest structure in the brain and, it is also the largest group of white matter in the brain. White matter is the paler tissue that resides in the brain and spine. It mainly consists of nerve fibers and myelin sheaths myelin is a type of fat.
Health information
Some times people are born without a corpus callosum (A.G.C.C). By the way A.G.C.C stands for Agenisis of the Corpus Callosum. Without the corpus callosum both sides of the brain cannot communicate which will make it extremely difficult to read emotions. Another thing is, for example, if you are blindfolded and given an object to identify, the right side of your brain would identify it and the corpus callosum would transmit the information to the left side of the brain because it is responsible for language, allowing you to say the name of the object. But a person with A.G.C.C would know what it is but could not say it because the hemispheres can not communicate without the corpus callosum.
