The Cerebellum
The cerebellum is a part of the brain that you could not live without. Without it, you would not be able to accomplish your everyday tasks or activities. It controls the balance and coordination of the body. The cerebellum is responsible for posture, precision, and timing. You can see the cerebellum in red in the photo above. It is in the lower area of the brain. The cerebellum is also below the pons.
The cerebellum is also responsible for performing everyday voluntary tasks, such as walking or writing. People who have an injured cerebellum will have problems with keeping their balance. Parkinson's disease is related with issues with the cerebellum. Parkinson's disease involves problems with motor coordination, which makes it hard to use your arms to feed yourself, and trembling or shaking of hands, which makes it hard for people to understand your handwriting. The cerebellum is not a part of the brain stem, but it is in the brain stem area.
